So. I found this quilt at a local antique shop. I’m not sure if it was the pattern or the pink cotton ball fabric but I was immediately in love. I also saw possibilities and wanted to transform the quilt into something current.

An obvious way would be to make the quilt in new fabric, maybe changing the scale of the blocks or sashing but that said boring and uncreative to me. I knew I could do better so I started drawing the blocks back as if they had no sashing. The resulting pattern was fantastic! Seriously. It had swoon factor in a pencil sketch.

I decided to template piece the top because, while paper piecing would definitely work, I didn’t want to have diamond blocks with seams in them. I wanted a sleek pieces.

I’ve been on a huge pink kick lately so decided to raid my stash of pink and green. Lots of Kaffe Fassett and some of my other designers in the top. I love it!

Inspiration Everywhere

I’m a firm believer that inspiration is everywhere – you just have to look. Well, ten or so years ago I bought a quilt at a sale. It’s not fancy but I love it! Always have. When we aren’t using the quilt I keep it folded on the sofa.

Yesterday it hit me that I needed to make an updated version of this quilt. My mind has been racing with thoughts of it for the last 30 or so hours. You know, figuring out exactly how you want it to look takes some time.

I don’t want to show you the quilt yet so here’s a peek:

Check out the quilting on the back. It’s incredible! The stitches are so tiny!

Every so often I like to change things up a bit. I’ve started a new blog. All the same stuff, different name.

Round Robin, round 2

Here’s the round robin I’ve been working on. The white center was made by my friend, MLM. I added the blue ruler, the square in a square corners, and the flying geese. I think it’s pretty groovy. If MLM didn’t know I had it, I’d keep it!

When in Utah, take your kids for a hike after a gondola ride. Snap selfie. I think this is my new favorite family photo!

Something Old, Something New

My sister-in-law was married on a ranch in Utah last month. It was gorgeous. Part if her wedding ensemble was this:

I took the scalloped lace from the bottom of my mother-in-law’s wedding dress and made this handkerchief. I bought some Swiss batiste, and everything was seen on by hand.

Love! Love! Love!
