Yards, and yards, and yards

I took this morning for myself to sew. I have projects I want to finish, and others I want to begin. Any work is a step in the right direction, right?

This is for a commission piece I’m doing. I’ll pick the quilt up today, and get the binding sewn on tonight.

Bias binding always makes me happy. I don’t know if it’s the repetition of putting it all together, or if it’s because it means the end is near.

Either way, it makes me giddy.

Hello, corkboard

Part of my great laundry room make over was to hang a corkboard. I want a place to display my kids’ artwork so
everyone can see but I don’t want it on my refrigerator.

I bought the least expensive corkboard I could find. In retrospect I would have spent a little more money if I’d known that the cork was thin and the frame plastic. Since I was covering it, I made lemonade.

I had the fabric, but did have to buy the nailhead trim. It’s the fake every-four-spaces-is-a-real-nailhead kind of nailhead trim. Not what I’d use for fine upholstery but perfect for this. I’m pretty happy. Now if I could just find my thumbtacks!

Paleo Banana Bread

My oldest has an event at school tomorrow morning, and I was asked to bring a baked item. According to Little Mister, his teachers think I bake well (apparently the liked the cookies at Christmas), and I’m okay with all of that.

Given my recent dietary restraints, and knowing that a typical American breakfast is wheat heavy, I thought of what to make. Hrm. I decided to search for a gluten recipe to bake my favorite thing: banana bread. Through the glory of the inter webs, I found one that appealed to me. I also had all the ingredients on hand.

I picked up these eggs at the Marietta Farmer’s Market last weekend. I love brown eggs, but green? Yum!!

Fast forward a few mashed bananas, and this recipe: voila! This recipe has a streusel topping that I omitted because it has pecans in it and I worry about nut allergies, which is crazy since the bread does have almond butter. Can’t win ’em all.

My kids and I had a sliver of the bread, just in case it wasn’t good. It was good. So, so good!

Laundry Room Makeover, part two

I’m making good progress on the laundry room project. I still have work to do – mud a wall, paint the ceiling, and trim, but I’m no longer embarrassed to have the door open. A work in progress is better than the disaster that was previously there.20140304-082425.jpg

I’m really pleased with the shelving. Not the best photo, but this shelving from Home Depot is exactly like the more expensive shelving from this store (which I love, but hey, it’s a laundry room). 20140304-082522.jpg

Bought these beauties at the Marietta Farmer’s Market this weekend.

Aren’t they gorgeous?! Look at the beautiful colors! As luck would have it, husband likes glazed carrots, so I see more of this in our future.

And I can’t beat getting the food from farm to my table. Yum!
